BIOGRAPHY
Born and raised in Finsbury Park, Rebel Frenzee has been writing songs since he could talk and rapping for fifteen years. He attended St Aidan's, the same primary school as UK chart sensation Chipmunk, and Highgate Wood Secondary School at the same time as Sway. At Highgate Wood School Frenzee set up an old school garage crew known as the Lil Big Kru (LBK) with Shifty and Silo, later recruiting Bombay, JK, DJ Starr, Haze and Sativa. The crew split after it got involved in gang beefs, but Shifty and Rebel Frenzee started up The Strikt Reality Crew with singer/rapper Locker G.
While he was living in Hornsey YMCA, Frenzee was persuaded to get off the roads by his mentor Peter Isaac, who, along with his friend, pushed Frenzee into a legal career. Shifty was locked up by the man, but Frenzee and Locker G started hitting the circuit, performing at around two shows a week. They received an amazing response, especially for their tongue-in-cheek track 'Your Girlfriend', which speaks about how they were planning to sleep with someone else’s girlfriend. Even at open mics where they were the only hip hop artists people were calling them the best act of the evening. Frenzee also started organising events and programming stages for festivals including Restore The Rec, Tottenham Carnival and Wood Green Car Free Day. He performed regularly with drummer Steve Clarke, who had also performed with rock giants Def Leppard and Led Zeppelin, and toured with Motorhead.
In 2010 Frenzee became part of the Tottenham Carnival Planning Committee and a director at the huge venue Tottenham Chances. He organised the charity event 'Bun Da Gun, Vibes Not Knives', featuring some of the best up-and-coming talent in Tottenham, including Karim K2, Leigh Marco, XYM, Laila, Supreme G, Essence and Dreddmarc amongst others. He also started managing other artists whom he felt were different.
In 2009 Frenzee reverted to Islam and his music became much more focussed around the morals he was trying to promote. From then on he has continued to perform at many open mics and festivals. He worked for WAYFMag filming, organising events and writing articles for six months, and still helps out with the magazine. He then linked up with S Man and helped him set up ILoveMuzic, promoting unsigned artists. They worked with Fatima Mohammed of double platinum Hungarian group Fekete Vonat, X Factor boot-campers 4Real and up-and-coming Finsbury Park rapper Avalanch. Most recently Frenzee performed in the Netherlands where he linked up with Dutch rappers Black Rose Rebelz whom he is helping to tour the UK in May.
Frenzee’s music is very diverse, ranging from commercial love songs to gritty revolutionary tracks to conscious songs about improving our society. There are not many artists like Frenzee, who is also respected within the community in Tottenham. He has worked on many projects with community workers there and has been quoted in the local press on more than one occasion.
2012 is surely going to be a big year for Frenzee as he pushes to create a mixtape unlike any other, with something for everyone.
